Hello, and welcome to the Hellbound Web edition of Xane's Workshop, a professional prop replica production company. On this site, we offer you the Lament Configuration, the famous puzzle box seen in the movie Hellraiser. We ask that you read through the box specifications and FAQ before you order so you know just what you are buying. We consider our boxes to be the most precisely detailed ones available, and almost 100% accurate to the one seen in Hellraiser 1. We are the original company that created the 'new, updated' panels that many eBay sellers are now using, since we allowed the pattern to become freely available on cenobite.com. Our panels are made from an a template that's almost 4x more detailed than those on this website. Any updates to the site, including e-mail downtimes will be posted to this section, so if you ever have contact problems, check back here to make sure we're not at a business conference or having trouble with our mail server.

09-25-07 Contrary to popular belief I'm not dead. I was just informed that the email on
this page has been inactive for a month or so, so if you've tried to contact me,
please try again. I do not have any pre-made boxes right now, but I'm hoping to
have at least six done before October, now that I've finally caught up on all
          but one replacement order.

11-14-06 Boxes still $80. We have three boxes pre-made and ready to ship upon payment
(personal check payments will have to wait one week for shipping). They are
regular polished brass with plasglas sealant. I am working on a few tarnished
boxes to keep around so that they don't have to be pre-ordered either. Any other
style will still have a waiting period.

M......vik N....s from France, I have still not heard anything from you.
Your last shipment has not been rejected or bounced due to a bad address
so I can only assume that you received it. Your email addresses of record
are still rejecting all of our mail.

05-29-05 Due to massive losses in the mail, we will NOT accept international orders any
          longer.

The Lament Configuration Specifications:

Size:
3" x 3" x 3"

Wood:
We use oak for the boxes now, as it gives the best weight and grain appearance under the brass. The boxes in the movies were made with all different types of wood, but mahogany is what most people tend to think it was. Oak makes a much tougher box and has a nicer grain. If you want real mahogany for a box, we can try to find some, but it will probably cost about $100 more.

Panels:
The box panels are about 1/32" under 3", aligning with the sides of the cube. and leaving a thin border. The pattern from the panels is taken from a photocopy of the original sheet used for the first movie, which was then re-detailed using high resolution screen shots from the first two Hellraiser movies, making them nearly identical to the film version. There are minor differences that make some of the finer details sharper and areas that were missing on some props are are filled back in. Because this is a display model and not just an item briefly seen on a television screen, it needs to have a cleaner, high resolution pattern to look good. The etching machine uses a template equivalent to a 1000dpi printout, 4x more detailed than the copy of our panels that many other eBay sellers use.

Brass:
We consider the Hellraiser 1 cube to be the best prop to base ours on, so we model ours after it by using extremely fine (.005") brass plaques which are photo-etched in a custom-built etching tank. None of the designs are painted on, the brass is a true intaglio etch and the wood shows through the entire piece. The Hellraiser 3 box used the pattern in reverse from most other films and the brass was a bit thicker. If you would like one similar to this, let us know. There is a $20 extra charge for the heavier brass and added chemical needed to cut through it.

Sealant:
We no longer offer unsealed or nylacote boxes. Only PlasGlas. This is a crystal clear, heavy epoxy varnish. The expansion rate of brass is much smaller than that of wood, so with any thinner varnish, no matter how well applied, the wood will eventually shrink or expand until the brass breaks or falls off. PlasGlas seals the wood strongly enough to prevent the panels from coming off, and rubbing a finger over the box won't accidentally pull the brass off. It takes a long time to finish a box with this sealant, but it is hundreds of times more durable than anything else.

Multiple styles: Tarnished and sealed [antiqued, will not tarnish further], Polished and sealed [will remain bright for a very long time]. If you have any special requests as far as sealing or tarnishing, let us know and we will let you know if we can do it. There may be an extra charge depending on what you want (for instance, some people want all sides of the box painted black, there would be no charge for this).

Note: While PlasGlas will keep brass untarnished for a much longer period of time than any other sealant [Nearly 3 years for our test box and it still looks the same], brass begins to oxidize nearly instantly upon exposure to air, there is no way to totally prevent brass from tarnishing - even commercial grade kiln fired coatings used for things like doorknobs don't last forever. After a very long time, the box may possibly start to get an old, antiqued look. However, we don't know just how long this will take with PlasGlas yet. Possibly on the scale of 5-10 years or longer.

Pictures Of The Box

Note: Each box is slightly different, your box will not exactly match those in the pictures. Also note, we do NOT carry glass domes or stands, check your local hobby shop, doll shop, or craft store to find them [Hobby Lobby seems to have the best prices]. When viewing these pictures, please make sure your browser isn't resizing them to fit the window, or it will make the finer details look warped.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How long until I recieve my box?

We say up to 2 months, depending on how many orders we have at the time, but we do try to get them out in under 1. It only goes overtime if there's an emergency, or if there's a large number of orders in the queue, or if there's severe weather, since the brass has to be etched outside.

Q2. Do you accept international orders?

Not any longer. We have lost too much money sending boxes internationally that were lost, stolen, damaged, or otherwise never made it to the buyer. We may possibly continue selling to England, but have not decided on that yet.

Q3. Do you sell boxes that move?

No, currently we only sell solid models. We do not have the funds for investing in enough tools to build a 'working' model, though we will still work on designing one.

Q4. How do you handle refunds?

We only offer replacements on damaged items. Every box is inspected before it is shipped. If it arrives damaged, then that is something that needs to be handled with a post office damage claim. There is a $50 charge to fix or replace boxes that have been damaged due to shipping. We suggest that you wait until the post office handles your damage report. Make sure you want the finish that you asked for, we will not replace boxes due to tarnishing of items that were requested antiqued, or unexpected results due to special requests. Please read the Specifications section above to learn about the different types of finishes. Since we only sell PlasGlas boxes now, the brass cannot be polished. Clean the PlasGlass off with a damp cloth, if that does not work, rubbing alcohol can also be used.

Q5. Would you like to advertise on our site/join us as a business partner/sell boxes through our store?

We are not currently looking to sell boxes elswhere and our company is small. We cannot afford to pay advertising fees, or split the profits with a partner. Nor can we mass produce the boxes, or even want to. Each box is a handcrafted item and we would prefer to keep our quality control high by making each box a custom order. Q6. Why don't you take credit cards?

Our company simply isn't large enough for us to obtain a merchant's licence. With the steady increase in credit card fraud and stolen numbers, we do not reccomend using a credit card for any online purchase. We also will not use paypal - the company has been sued for unfair business practices and has done little so far to change things.
