"I am a studio art student at Cal State Fullerton, and my interest in prosthetics
begins here. I took a class in advanced theatre make-up with Abel Zeballos, three
years ago. This Angelique costume was my first project. I like Hellraiser and
wanted to do a character that was more obscure. The cenobite makeup of Angelique
was amazing, with such an involved design, and sadly it was in the movie for just
a few minutes. I thought it would be challenging to do the makeup. The makeup
consists of a head prosthetic and 2 separate shoulder prosthetics. I had some
friends help by doing a full head cast of me, so I would be able to make it fit
to my head perfectly. I sculpted the prosthetic, then cast it. I did the same
with my shoulders. Then I poured foam latex into the molds to make the appliances
themselves. My costume was made out of vinyl, and I made it to look like Angelique's
costume in the movie. I chose to not include her stomach stitches and chest wounds,
as I felt I'd like the head to be the focus. I applied the bald cap, prosthetics
and makeup to myself.
I debuted in this costume at the San Diego Comic Con. I won two prizes, the AAA
America award for best sci-fi movie or TV character and the Darkest Desires best
costume inspired by the horror genre. I got a lot of comments, and Angelique went
over really well. I couldn't walk 5 feet without someone wanting a picture. I
had a lot of fun!"
