"[Here's] a photo montage of my "Pin-elope" costume. I made it myself as follows:
First I made a life cast of my own head. No that was not easy. It took 3 tries.
I used pre-cut strips of plaster gauze to first mold the back of my head, when
it firmed up, I vaselined the edge, then molded the front of my face. After making
the life-cast, I sculpted the mask. Then I cast that with plaster gauze, front
and back. Then I sealed the mold and smoothed the seam with a little plaster on
the inside of the mold. I poured liquid latex into the mold and rolled it around
to coat it. Repeated that a couple times until thick enough. The chest and neck
wounds were merely large pieces of latex cut and adhered to myself. The costume
was also self-designed. I used anatomy reference; the torso actually has musculature,
including the external obliques, but I didn't photograph it properly. I made a
pattern on paper, cut each muscle individually, spread them out on the back of
a large piece of leather-like black vinyl, leaving enough space in between to
"tuck in" the fabric. A zipper up the front closes it, and over that I velcro-ed
a piece of vinyl in the shape of an ornate "T" to hide the zipper. The mask went
on over the head with a velcroed seam in the back. My own hair is pulled up through
an opening and a flap of latex "scalp" slid over it to make it seem as of the
cenobite were wearing a trophy of hair. I glued the edges of the mask to my eyebrow
area, nostrils, and the edges of my lips. It was painted with acrylics. I made
the costume for a contest at the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors in Chicago during
Halloween 1992. Doug Bradley was there (as seen in photo) along with the cool
Pinhead you also see pictured here. Unfortunately I have no information about
that Pinhead, but maybe he will come forward now??? But here comes the interesting
part: At the con I met the co-editor of a zine called Coenobium. We became friends,
then a year later, we became an "item". I became so smitten with this guy, I bought
a one-way ticket from New York to California to be with him. His name is Ed Martinez
and we've lived together for 5 1/2 fabulous years!"
