Justin Warren as Pinhead and Laurel Goetz as Angelique
Wow! These were difficult to create at age 18 on a limited budget and limited
time!
I created these two years ago each with different methods. The costume for Pinhead
was sewn together with soft vinyl and pleather; I used various types of pleather
to create the "details". :) Yes, I know pinhead doesn't have those
little s&m belts and collars, but they sure made the job a lot easier.
I didn't have the materials or knowledge at this age to make a mold of my head, so the make-up was done directly on my face--one freakin' nail at a time (it took about 6 1/2 painful hours [not that kind of painful, I didn't really stick them in]). I forget how many nails it was, something close to 120. I snipped the ends of off every one and super-glued each one to a cut strip of flexible window screen. Those were then spirit gummed on, and wet latex was applied over that. I then sat on my bum for a couple more hours with a pair of blowdryers to the head. Then make-up was applied. This method was crude indeed but turned out well. If I did it again, i could actually get the little grooves because i now know how to make masks.
Angelique was a blast to make. The skull was actually from a soft rubber skull I bought at a magic store; the skin flaps were made from dryer sheets that I dipped in latex several times and hung to dry. It was all then painted in. The shoulder pieces (which I wish we had TIME to sew into the costume itself, we we in a hurry) were TOO fun to make. I cut the crotch out of a pair of pantyhose, and my fiance wore it like a shirt. She sat in a chair under a ladder (yes, this gave her some bad luck), and I literally pulled the parts up I needed to with paper clips on strings, tied to various steps on the ladder. I tied down some spots between the raised parts to create the "stretched" look, and then poured a bucket-load of latex over her shoulders and let it dry. It was....most amusing.
Angelique's costume was made from scratch, and my fiance constructed it. She used mostly standard fabric.
We gots TONS of comments and won a costume contest--even after walking in late and the previous results had been decided. heh heh...
