The tattoo took a total of appr. twelve hours to complete, spread over eight occasions. Pinhead's face alone took an hour and a half to complete. Since good photos of the front of the pillar seem to be non-existing in both the movie and promo shots the complete pillar was constructed from various photos found in books, on the Internet and in the movie.
From this, Mikael sketched an outline and tattoed the rest free-hand and in the proceedings gave more life to the statue. The Lament Configuration is in color and so is the blood which runs up the statue towards Pinhead's face.
