Scare: Randy, Thank you for your reply and be reassured I plan to add a lot of your items to the site in the next update. Randy: Keep up the good work. Scare: I hope you can answer these questions for us at The Hellbound Web. I appreciate is you are unable to fully answer some of them but whatever you can say is gratefully excepted. 1. First of all, when did you first see Hellraiser and what effect did it have on you? Randy: I first saw Hellraiser back in 1987 and was blown away. I was a big fan of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Elm Street of course and then Hellraiser came along and I was just awe-struck. I mean the image of Pinhead alone was incredible and then all the sexual and religious themes mixed in made it unforgettable. 2. How did you come to be at NECA? Randy: I worked for 2 years at McFarlane Toys in the area of Research and Development. I learned a lot there and met some very talented people. I have great respect for what McFarlane has done to elevate the level of sculpting and detail in the Action Figure industry. After a couple of years I needed a change and decided to join NECA and build a team of top notch sculptors, designers, and painters. We spent 2002 establishing the foundation and now people are beginning to see what we are capable of. 3. How did you go about getting the Hellraiser license? Randy: I had some history with it due to my previous experience at McFarlane Toys. There was always this misconception that the Hellraiser license was not obtainable and I learned over time that was not entirely true. When I came to NECA I presented NECA CEO Joel Weinshanker with a list of "dream licenses" essentially projects I have always wanted to work on that I knew had a strong and loyal fan base. Joel took my advice and put the Hellraiser deal together. 4. What exactly does your licence cover you to produce? Randy: Just about everything. We have the rights to just about anything you can think of.... 5. Will you be able to produce figures of Cenobites from the upcoming two films? Randy: Yes, we will have the rights for parts 7 and 8. 6. Any plans for models of the human figures or entities such as Skinless Frank? Randy: Of course! We want to produce a well rounded line from the Hellraiser universe, not just Cenobites. We also want at least 1 character in each series that is visually different then the black leather clad Cenobites. In Series I we had Chatter Beast. In Series II we have... you will have to wait and see. 7. Will we see any original Cenobite designs or designs from the EPIC Comic range? Randy: At this time we do not have any plans for original or Epic Comic designs. I think we enough great material and designs to pull from the various films for some time. 8. How aware do you feel you are of fan reactions and of what they want to see? Randy: Very Aware! First and foremost we are all fans ourselves that is why we wanted to produce a Hellraiser Series so bad. We know how fans feel about the line so far and I think we have a pretty good idea of what they want. It is obvious that every wants the original 4 Cenobites but from a business standpoint it makes no sense to put the 4 most popular in the first series. We want Hellraiser to last and provide a variety of different characters over time. 9. What do think of the future of the "Hellraiser" franchise as a whole? Randy: I hope that all this merchandise and the action figures will help strengthen Hellraiser as a brand. I mean Hellraiser went unlicensed for so long it is unreal. Almost every horror fan wanted a Pinhead to stand with their Jason, Freddy, and Leatherface. We have made that possible and that makes me very happy. I hope that with the success of movies like The Ring, Wrong Turn, and the upcoming Freddy vs Jason that a revival takes place and movies like Hellraiser are given bigger budgets and are brought back to the big screen. 10. Out of your products what are you post proud of? Randy: The 18" Pinhead with Motion Activated Sound. I think everything on this figure from sculpt, detail, paint, packaging, selection of dialogue, everything is top notch. We are all very proud of this item. Scare: Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions. Randy: My pleasure, please visit the official site www.hellraiserthemovie.com and watch for News in the coming weeks about Series II which should be out in time for Halloween.
